Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir Cites ‘Divine Intervention’ in May Conflict With India; Video Resurfaces

Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir has claimed that “divine intervention” aided Pakistan during its military confrontation with India earlier this year, remarks that have resurfaced following the circulation of a video clip of his speech on social media.

In the undated video, which Pakistani media reports suggest was recorded on December 10, Munir is seen invoking religious imagery while referring to the May conflict with India, which followed New Delhi’s launch of Operation Sindoor in response to the Pahalgam terror attack. Speaking in Urdu during a public address, Munir cited a Quranic verse — “If Allah helps you, none can overcome you” — and suggested that Pakistan experienced divine support during the episode.

Using faith-based and metaphorical language, Munir said the intervention was “felt”, implying that unseen forces had assisted Pakistan at a critical juncture. The video has since gone viral on X and other social media platforms. News18 has said it could not independently verify the authenticity of the clip or ascertain its full context.

Operation Sindoor

India launched Operation Sindoor in early May following the terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives. As part of the operation, the Indian Air Force carried out strikes on multiple terror camps located deep inside Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

According to Indian officials, the strikes targeted key terror infrastructure and launchpads in areas such as Bahawalpur and Muridke in Pakistan’s Punjab province — regions long identified as hubs for Pakistan-based terror groups — as well as camps in Muzaffarabad and Kotli in PoK. The targeted facilities were said to be used for recruitment, weapons training and infiltration planning.

Officials further stated that the counter-terror operation damaged runways at several Pakistani air bases and neutralised air defence assets, significantly degrading Pakistan’s military response capabilities. The operation reportedly lasted less than 30 minutes and was described by New Delhi as a high-impact, short-duration mission aimed at dismantling terror infrastructure without escalating into a broader military conflict.

Indian ministers have maintained that Operation Sindoor remains an ongoing counter-terrorism framework, intended to deter hostile forces and safeguard peace and stability in the South Asian region.
