An IndiGo flight operating from Kuwait to Hyderabad was diverted to Mumbai on Tuesday after authorities received a threat warning of a “human bomb” onboard the aircraft. The alert, communicated through a detailed email sent to Hyderabad airport, was assessed as specific and credible, prompting immediate security action.
Upon receiving the threat, the flight was redirected to Mumbai, where it landed safely and was moved to an isolation bay for thorough checks. Security teams, including bomb detection units and emergency responders, were deployed to the site, and all precautionary protocols were activated. Officials closely monitored the situation as the aircraft, passengers, and baggage were subjected to intensive screening. Details regarding the number of passengers on board were not immediately available. IndiGo has not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident.
The security alert comes a day after a similar threat was reported in Maharashtra. On Monday, a private school in the Mira Road area of Thane district received an email claiming that a bomb had been planted on its premises and would be detonated. Police were alerted immediately, and a bomb detection and disposal squad conducted a comprehensive search of the school campus. The threat was later confirmed to be a hoax.
Authorities are treating both incidents with utmost seriousness amid rising concerns over anonymous threat messages and email-based intimidation tactics.
