Brutal Murder in Sambhal Unravels Like a Crime Thriller, Husband Killed by Wife and Lover

What unfolded in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal district was not the plot of a cinematic thriller, but a chilling real-life crime marked by betrayal, brutality and calculated deception.

Rahul, a shoe trader, had no inkling that his marriage would end in a gruesome murder—allegedly orchestrated by his wife, Ruby, with the help of her lover, Gaurav. The couple lived with their two children in Chungi Mohalla of Chandausi town. Investigators say tensions had been simmering for some time, driven by Ruby’s resentment and an extramarital relationship.

On the night between November 17 and 18, events took a deadly turn. According to police findings, Ruby called Gaurav to the house around 11 p.m. When Rahul returned home at approximately 2 a.m., he allegedly found the two together, leading to a heated argument. What followed, investigators say, was a sudden and fatal assault. Ruby allegedly struck Rahul on the head with an iron rod, killing him on the spot.

Faced with the challenge of disposing of the body, Ruby and Gaurav allegedly resorted to extreme measures. Using a cutting machine brought by Gaurav, the body was dismembered. Ruby later purchased two large black bags. Police allege that the severed head, arms and legs were placed in one bag and dumped into the Ganga at Rajghat, nearly 50 kilometres away, while the torso was discarded in a field near Patruva Idgah.

In an apparent attempt to deflect suspicion, Ruby approached the police station on November 24 and filed a missing complaint for her husband. The case took a dramatic turn on December 15, when police recovered a highly decomposed body without a head or limbs. Due to its condition, immediate identification was not possible.

However, a crucial clue emerged during the investigation. Rahul’s name had been tattooed on his hand, raising suspicions. When police summoned Ruby for identification, she refused to acknowledge the body, claiming the clothes did not belong to her husband.

The breakthrough came through forensic analysis of Ruby’s mobile phone. Investigators recovered a photograph showing Rahul standing beside Ruby, wearing the same clothes she had earlier denied recognising. This contradiction intensified suspicion, leading to sustained interrogation.

Under questioning, Ruby allegedly confessed to the crime. Sambhal Superintendent of Police Krish Bishnoi confirmed that the case had been solved and that both Ruby and her alleged accomplice, Gaurav, had been arrested and sent to judicial custody.

Police said the investigation exposed a meticulously planned crime that ultimately unravelled due to digital evidence and forensic clues, reinforcing the principle that even the most carefully concealed crimes leave behind traces.
