A powerful explosion damaged a three-storey residential building in Moharganj under the Balua police station limits of Uttar Pradesh’s Chandauli district late on Sunday night, triggering panic among occupants and leaving three people injured.
The blast occurred near the rear portion of the house, causing the back wall to collapse while also damaging other parts of the structure. At the time of the incident, more than a dozen transgender persons were sleeping inside the building and managed to flee the premises in time.
According to the police, the house belongs to Khushbu Kinnar and is located just a few steps away from a police outpost on the Chahaniya–Dhanapur road. Around 15 individuals were present in the house when the explosion took place at approximately 12:30 a.m. Thick smoke filled the building following the blast, adding to the chaos.
Three residents—identified as Lovely, Soni and Moni—sustained minor injuries and were provided medical attention. Senior members of the transgender community arrived at the scene soon after the incident.
Preliminary investigation revealed the presence of electric wiring at the blast site, leading investigators to suspect that explosive material may have been planted using electrical wires. Police officials indicated that the incident may be linked to a financial dispute.
Based on a complaint filed by Khushbu Kinnar, the Balua police have registered a case against four named individuals—Abhishek Singh alias Tinku, Manoj Singh, Vikas Singh and Vishal Singh, all residents of Sarai village within the Balua police station area—along with three unidentified persons.
Balua police station in-charge Anant Chandrashekhar confirmed that forensic teams had collected samples from the site and sent them to a laboratory for analysis. “The exact nature of the explosive substance and the identity of those responsible will be determined after the forensic report,” he said.
Police have taken two suspects into custody for questioning, and further investigation is underway.
