Nainital (Uttarakhand): A major public disturbance broke out at the Tallital Dant crossing in Nainital after a confrontation involving a married couple and their family members, following allegations of an extramarital relationship.
The incident triggered traffic disruption and drew widespread public attention in the tourist town.
According to police, a man from Ghaziabad had secretly brought another woman to Nainital for a holiday. Upon learning about the trip, his wife, accompanied by family members, followed him to the hill station. The group had been searching for the man since Monday morning.
The situation escalated in the afternoon when the wife reportedly spotted her husband’s car near the Tallital Dant junction. Family members stopped the vehicle in the middle of the road, leading to a heated argument that soon turned violent. During the altercation, the car’s window panes were damaged by angry relatives.
Police said the woman accompanying the man managed to flee from the scene amid the chaos, reportedly running away to ensure her safety.
After receiving information about the disturbance, police personnel rushed to the spot, brought the situation under control, and escorted both parties to the police station. The matter remained under discussion at the police station for several hours, with both sides levelling allegations against each other.
The wife accused her husband of assault and of maintaining an illicit relationship with another woman, while the husband alleged that he was attacked by his wife and her relatives. He reportedly sought legal recourse and said the matter should be addressed through divorce proceedings in court.
Meanwhile, the wife and her family insisted that the woman accompanying the husband be brought to the police station and remained there for several hours demanding her presence. Despite repeated phone calls, the woman did not return.
Sub-Inspector Anjul John said the couple is already involved in a separation case. After counselling both parties, the police allowed them to leave, he added
