Kerla/Edappal: The week-long Rigveda Laksharchana commenced on December 7 at the Shukapuram Sri Dakshinamurthi Temple in Edappal. The inaugural ceremony, held amid the resonant chanting of ancient Vedic hymns, was officiated by former Badrinath Melsanthi, Ravalji Ishwaraprasad Namboodiripad. In his address, he noted that the world is increasingly recognising the significance and spiritual greatness of Dakshinamurthi, the universal teacher.
Malabar Devaswom Board President O.K. Vasu presided over the ceremony. In his presidential address, he remarked that during ancient times—when no formal universities existed—the Vedas themselves functioned as comprehensive centres of knowledge. He added that this profound truth is often better understood by foreigners than by Indians themselves.
