Asia’s Largest Grain-Based Ethanol Plant to Open in Bihar by August 2026

Bihar is set to host Asia’s largest grain-based ethanol plant, with the mega project scheduled to commence operations in August 2026 at Urav village in the Chakai block of Jamui district.

Built at an estimated cost of ₹4,000 crore and spread across 105 acres, the ethanol plant is expected to generate direct and indirect employment for more than 10,000 people in the region. Beyond job creation, the project is projected to significantly enhance farmers’ incomes and provide a major boost to industrial development in the area.

Green, Sustainable Mega Project

The facility is a state-of-the-art, environmentally friendly, grain-based ethanol plant that uses advanced green technology and waste-management systems. To meet its energy requirements, a 20-megawatt captive co-generation power plant has been installed within the premises, underscoring the project’s commitment to sustainability.

Officials and industry experts describe the initiative as a historic milestone in Bihar’s industrial landscape, positioning the state as a key player in India’s renewable energy and ethanol production ecosystem.

Boost for Farmers and Local Economy

According to plant management estimates, the facility will consume approximately 30,000 quintals of grain daily and produce around 7.5 lakh litres of ethanol per day. Priority will be given to grains sourced from farmers in Jamui district, ensuring a steady local market for agricultural produce and improving price realisation for farmers.

The increased demand for grain is expected to strengthen the rural economy, enhance agricultural profitability and support allied sectors such as transportation and logistics.

Recruitment to Begin in 2026

Plant manager Kamalakant Daan said the recruitment process is likely to begin between March and April 2026, with preference given to local youth from Jamui and neighbouring areas. Subsequently, skilled workers and technical professionals from other districts and states will also be inducted.

Currently, around 300 workers are engaged in construction and initial operational activities at the site.

Chakai Emerging as an Industrial Hub

The ethanol plant is expected to transform the Chakai region and surrounding areas into a new industrial hub. The project is anticipated to spur growth in employment, agriculture-based transport, and ancillary industries, creating a ripple effect across the local economy.

Experts believe the project will firmly place Bihar on the national ethanol production map and contribute meaningfully to India’s renewable energy goals.
