US President Donald Trump announced that US forces have destroyed a drug distribution center linked to Venezuela.
Trump said there was a huge explosion in the dock area where boats were loaded with drugs, and that the area no longer exists. He added that the attack took place two nights ago.
The US military has destroyed dozens of boats in international waters in recent months on suspicion of drug trafficking, but this is the first US attack on a facility on Venezuelan soil.
Trump did not provide official details about where the attack took place or which agency was behind it. White House spokespeople also did not respond to the president's statement. He made the remarks in an interview with WABC in New York.
In October, Trump confirmed that he had authorized the CIA to conduct covert operations in Venezuela. Trump has accused Venezuela of releasing prisoners to the United States and smuggling drugs. In December, he told NBC News that war with Venezuela could not be ruled out.
