BENGALURU: Authorities have launched a massive manhunt for a Nepali couple suspected of orchestrating a high-stakes heist at the residence of a prominent city builder.
The suspects, identified as Dinesh and Kamala, allegedly absconded with gold, diamonds, and cash valued at approximately ₹18 crore.
The theft occurred at the home of Seemanth S. Arjun, a well-known builder residing on Kempapura Main Road in Yamalur. Remarkably, the couple had been employed at the household for only 20 days prior to the incident.
Executed During a Family Event
The robbery took place on Sunday between 9:00 AM and 12:30 PM, a window during which the family was away attending a Bhoomi Puja (groundbreaking ceremony) at a relative’s property.
The crime was discovered by Ambika, another domestic worker, who found the wardrobes and lockers forced open. Investigations reveal that the perpetrators used an iron rod to breach the secure lockers.
The inventory of stolen assets includes:
- Gold: 11.5 kg (estimated at ₹17.74 crore)
- Diamond Jewelry: 5 kg (valued at approx. ₹14.6 lakh)
- Cash: ₹11.5 lakh in liquid currency
Police Investigation and Manhunt
The Marathahalli Police have intensified their probe, meticulously reviewing CCTV footage from the residence and surrounding transit points. Early leads suggest that the suspects may have already crossed state lines or are attempting to flee across the border to Nepal.
Special police teams have been dispatched to track their movement. The incident has also sparked a renewed discussion among Bengaluru’s elite regarding the necessity of mandatory police verification for domestic staff, particularly those recruited from outside the state or country.
