Mumbai: A 32-year-old college lecturer was stabbed to death following a verbal altercation while alighting from a train at Malad railway station on Saturday evening, police said.
The victim has been iden
tified as Alok Kumar Singh, who was travelling on a suburban train when an argument reportedly broke out between him and a fellow passenger, Omkar Shinde, as they were getting down from the train.
According to police, the dispute escalated rapidly, during which Shinde allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed Singh. The accused fled the scene immediately after the attack, creating panic among commuters at the busy station.
Police personnel reached the spot soon after and launched a search operation. The accused was later traced and arrested, officials said. The motive behind the attack is believed to be linked to the sudden argument that occurred during the train’s arrival at the station.
A case of murder has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
