Deepfake Scam Using Sudha Murty’s Name and Voice Sparks Cyber Fraud Alert

Bengaluru:  Cybercriminals have launched a new online scam by misusing the name and voice of eminent social thinker, former Chairperson of the Infosys Foundation, and Rajya Sabha Member Sudha Murty, prompting a public warning from her against fraudulent investment schemes circulating on social media.

According to reports, fraudsters have been creating and circulating videos that falsely appear to feature Sudha Murty endorsing various investment opportunities. These videos, generated using artificial intelligence and deepfake technology, are being shared across social media platforms and messaging groups to lure unsuspecting users into fraudulent schemes.

Clarifying the matter, Sudha Murty stated that all such videos using her name, image, or voice are entirely fake. She expressed serious concern over the misuse of AI tools to fabricate endorsements for platforms claiming to offer high returns on small investments, including those promoted under names such as “Quantum AI.”

Murty emphasised that she has no association whatsoever with any investment or financial scheme and has never promoted or endorsed such initiatives. “These videos have been created without my consent or involvement by misusing artificial intelligence,” she said, adding that her work has always been confined to social service and philanthropy.

Urging the public to remain vigilant, Murty warned investors not to fall prey to cyber fraudsters or click on suspicious links that could result in financial loss. She advised people to verify information exclusively through official and reliable channels before making any investment decisions.

She also appealed to users to immediately report suspicious videos and links to the authorities. Sudha Murty has already lodged a formal complaint with the police regarding the deepfake videos, following which the cyber crime wing has taken up the investigation.

Authorities have reiterated the need for caution as cybercriminals increasingly exploit advanced technologies to conduct financial fraud, urging citizens to exercise due diligence in the digital space.
