Chennai (Pallavaram): A 28-year-old construction worker has died from injuries sustained in a brutal attack in the Pallavaram area, police said. The victim, identified as Selvakumar, was admitted to a hospital in Tambaram after being seriously injured in a knife attack on the night of 14th December and succumbed to his injuries on Friday, two days after the incident.
According to police, the attack occurred near Tirusulam when a group of unidentified men assaulted Selvakumar with sharp weapons, inflicting multiple wounds to his head and other parts of his body. He was rushed to hospital in critical condition, where he remained under treatment before passing away.
The Pallavaram police registered a case and launched an investigation. Preliminary inquiries suggest that the incident stemmed from a personal dispute, but officers are yet to establish a clear motive. Sources said the probe is focusing on interpersonal relationships linked to the deceased, but authorities have not commented officially on any specific allegations.
Two women were also taken into custody in connection with the case, and police said they were assisting in the investigation. A juvenile was reportedly detained and handed over to a correctional facility as part of ongoing inquiries. Investigators are searching for additional suspects believed to be involved in the attack.
Senior police officials stated that the case is being treated as a serious violent crime, and teams are examining mobile phone records, witness statements, and forensic evidence to determine the sequence of events and identify all those responsible.
The incident has drawn local attention to urban safety concerns, with residents calling for swift action to ensure justice for the victim and to prevent similar crimes.
