Explosions and Low-Flying Aircraft Reported Over Caracas Amid Rising Regional Tensions

Loud explosions accompanied by the sound of low-flying aircraft were reported across several parts of Caracas in the early hours of Saturday, according to journalists from Agence France-Presse (AFP) and the Associated Press (AP).

AFP reported that the explosions were heard at around 2 a.m. local time (0600 GMT). An AP reporter said at least seven blasts were audible, along with aircraft flying at low altitude over multiple neighbourhoods of the Venezuelan capital.

Videos purportedly showing airstrikes were circulated on social media platform X by Iran-based outlet Tehran Times and conflict-monitoring account Clash Report. However, News18 was unable to independently verify the authenticity, timing, or location of the footage.

Following the explosions, residents in various parts of the city were seen rushing out of their homes. According to AP, groups of people gathered on streets and open areas, looking skyward in an apparent attempt to understand the unfolding situation. The precise source and nature of the explosions remained unclear at the time of reporting.

The reports come against the backdrop of heightened tensions between Venezuela and the United States. In recent days, US President Donald Trump has ordered the deployment of a US Navy task force to the Caribbean and publicly raised the possibility of ground strikes against Venezuela.

US officials have stated that American forces have been targeting suspected drug-smuggling vessels in the region as part of ongoing counter-narcotics operations. However, it remains uncertain whether the explosions reported in Caracas were linked to these operations or to any other military activity.

Authorities in Venezuela had not issued an official statement on the incident at the time of publication.
