NEW DELHI: Disturbing interior footage from a Mahindra Scorpio involved in a fatal road accident in Dwarka has surfaced, capturing the high-speed moments immediately preceding the death of 23-year-old Sahil Dhaneshra.
The incident, which occurred on February 3 near Lal Bahadur Shastri College, has sparked national outrage and intensified calls for stringent action against underage driving and reckless social media stunts.
The Fatal Collision
The leaked footage, reportedly filmed by a female passenger seated beside the teenage driver, shows the SUV navigating a road without a median at excessive speeds. In the seconds before the impact, the vehicle is seen narrowly missing a bus before colliding head-on with Sahil’s motorcycle. Investigators note that Sahil was attempting to overtake the same bus from the opposite direction when the SUV, allegedly traveling in the wrong lane, struck him with immense force.
Allegations of Reckless Stunting
The victim’s mother has leveled grave allegations against the juvenile driver, asserting that the crash was the direct result of a "criminal mentality" fueled by social media validation. She claims the teenager and his sister were filming "reels" for Instagram at the time of the collision.
"My son was heading to his office when this happened. The speed and negligence are clearly visible in their own footage," she stated, further alleging that the final moments of the impact were intentionally trimmed from the version of the video that first surfaced. She highlighted that the driver—who reportedly did not possess a valid license—had a history of multiple overspeeding citations, questioning why his guardians continued to allow him access to the vehicle.
Medical and Legal Developments
A post-mortem examination confirmed the catastrophic nature of the accident. The report cites "haemorrhagic shock" resulting from severe cranio-cerebral injuries as the cause of death. Clinical findings included multiple skull fractures, brain edema, and extensive internal damage to vital organs, all consistent with a high-velocity impact.
The juvenile driver was initially apprehended and sent to an observation home by the Juvenile Justice Board. However, on February 10, he was granted interim bail to allow him to appear for his ongoing Class 10 board examinations. The decision has met with sharp criticism from the victim's family, who maintain that the incident should be treated as a serious criminal act rather than a mere traffic accident.
