A disturbing video circulating widely on social media has highlighted the severe risks associated with public intoxication. The footage shows a young man, reportedly under the influence of alcohol, mistaking a railway track for a bed and lying down to sleep on it — an act that narrowly avoided tragedy.
The incident is said to have occurred on the Harbour Line at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CST), one of Mumbai’s busiest railway stations. According to reports, the individual — identified as a young waste collector — was found lying on the track near Platform No. 1 along the halt line used by local trains.
Video footage shows the man asleep on the track as a local train slowly approaches from behind. Alarmed passengers on the platform can be seen waving their hands and shouting in an attempt to wake him. However, the man appeared oblivious to the danger due to his intoxicated state. Train Services Disrupted; Police Intervene
Despite repeated horn blasts from the motorman, the individual did not move from the tracks. Personnel from the Government Railway Police (GRP), who were present at the station, quickly intervened and removed him to safety.
The incident reportedly disrupted Central Railway local services for approximately 30 minutes, causing inconvenience to thousands of commuters. Authorities stated that the episode took place at around 3:00 pm on Monday.
A case has been registered against the individual under relevant provisions of the Railway Act for endangering public safety while intoxicated.
The video was initially shared on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) by the handle @Nalanda_index and has since gained widespread traction across multiple platforms.
The episode serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by alcohol abuse in public spaces and underscores the critical importance of railway safety regulations in densely populated urban transit systems.
