Wayanad: Nimmy Joy (34), a native of Kaniyampetta, Wayanad, Kerala daughter of Joy and Thankamma of Thottathimala, well-known social worker and member of the Malankara Christian Church and wife of Vipin Koshi of Vallappurackal, Punalur, has gone to be with the Lord.
At 34, Nimmy Joy was a nurse who dedicated her life to caring for others.
With great dreams for her future, she moved to Ireland to work at St. James’s Hospital in Dublin. Life was moving forward peacefully, but within a year, she was diagnosed with Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD), a severe and progressively life-threatening condition.
She was placed on the high-priority lung transplant list in Ireland and waited with hope for five years. However, as no suitable donor became available, the family made the decision to bring her back to India, where she was admitted to Yashoda Hospital in Secunderabad. Through Jeevandan, donor lungs from a neighboring state were airlifted by chartered flight, and she underwent a bilateral lung transplant on January 25.
Although there were signs of progress after the surgery, the second phase became extremely complex. Despite the prayers of countless loved ones around the world, on February 21, Nimmy journeyed to a shore free from illness, leaving many in tears.
Joicy Joy is her only sister. Her brother-in-law is Jibu Thomas.
Children: Amelia, Abigail, and Abelin.
She is also the niece of Pastor James Varghese of Chungathara, Nilambur, and the late Dr. V.V. Thomas.
The public viewing and funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 25, from 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s Orthodox Valiyapally Parish Hall, Meenangadi. Burial will follow at the Kumbaleri Cemetery, Meenangadi.
