Washington / Tehran: The United States has intensified its military operations against Iran for a second consecutive day, signaling a significant escalation in efforts aimed at dismantling the country’s ruling establishment. U.S. officials confirmed on Sunday that the headquarters of Iran’s powerful paramilitary force, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), had been destroyed in coordinated strikes.
The operation is being carried out in coordination with Israel, marking a major joint military initiative in the region amid rapidly deteriorating security conditions.
“Severing the Head of the Snake”: U.S. Central Command
In an official statement, United States Central Command (CENTCOM) described the strike as a decisive blow to Iran’s military infrastructure. The command asserted that the IRGC, which it accused of being responsible for the deaths of more than a thousand Americans over the past four decades, no longer maintains an operational headquarters.
CENTCOM characterized the assault as having “severed the head of the snake,” underscoring what it described as the dismantling of a central pillar of Iran’s military power. The Pentagon similarly referred to the operation as a major setback for Tehran’s strategic capabilities.
Conflict Could Last Weeks, Says President Trump
As missile strikes continued to target sites in Tehran and surrounding areas, U.S. President Donald Trump indicated that the military campaign could extend for up to a month. In an interview with the Daily Mail, he described the unfolding situation as “a four-week process.”
Unconfirmed reports have also suggested that Iran’s Supreme Leader may have been killed during the initial phase of the joint offensive, which began on Saturday. However, no independent verification has been provided.
In remarks to The Atlantic, President Trump suggested that elements within Iran’s current leadership may be open to negotiations despite the intensifying conflict.
Iran Retaliates Across the Middle East
In response to the U.S.-Israeli strikes, Iran launched missile and drone attacks across several parts of the Middle East. Explosions were reported in Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman and Israel, signaling a widening regional fallout.
Despite sustained bombardment, Iranian officials have maintained a defiant stance, asserting that the country will not yield under pressure.
U.S. Casualties Confirmed
The Pentagon confirmed that three American service members were killed and five others seriously injured during the ongoing operations. Responding to the casualties in an interview with NBC News, President Trump stated that while losses are an unfortunate reality of war, he believes the outcome will ultimately prove beneficial for global stability.
Heavy aerial bombardment continues in Tehran and its surrounding areas, with the situation on the ground evolving rapidly. International observers warn that the conflict risks further destabilizing an already volatile region, as diplomatic efforts struggle to keep pace with military developments.
