Eight Indians Stranded in Karachi After Flight Diversion Amid Gulf Tensions

Thiruvananthapuram: Eight Indian nationals, have been stranded at Karachi International Airport in Pakistan after their flight was diverted due to escalating tensions in the Gulf region.

According to confirmation from Non-Resident Keralites Affairs (NORKA), the stranded Malayali passengers are Krishnadas Nagaloor, a native of Kodumbu in Palakkad; his wife Dr. Rashmi Menon from Kalady; and their three-year-old daughter, Sthi Menon.

The family was travelling on an Air Arabia flight from Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, to Kuwait via Sharjah. However, due to heightened security concerns and airspace restrictions triggered by the ongoing conflict-like situation in the Gulf, the aircraft was forced to alter its route and make an emergency landing at Jinnah International Airport.

Coordinated Intervention by NORKA and External Affairs Ministry

Efforts are underway to facilitate the safe return of the stranded passengers to India via Colombo. The Ministry of External Affairs, in coordination with NORKA, has expedited procedures to ensure their repatriation at the earliest.

Timely intervention by members of the Loka Kerala Sabha has enabled the provision of essential medicines and other basic necessities to the affected passengers. Authorities are also assisting those who have reportedly lost travel documents, including passports, by initiating procedures for issuing duplicate documentation.

Helpline Activated for Gulf Crisis Support

In response to the unfolding crisis in the Gulf, NORKA has activated a dedicated help desk to assist expatriates and their families. As of now, the helpline has received 541 calls seeking guidance and support.

The situation is being closely monitored under the leadership of NORKA Secretary T.V. Anupama and NORKA Roots CEO Ajith Kolassery. Officials have also disseminated information regarding government-arranged shelters in countries including Bahrain to ensure the safety and well-being of Indian expatriates in the region.

Authorities have assured that all necessary steps are being taken to safeguard stranded passengers and provide timely assistance during this period of uncertainty.
