Man Arrested in Tamil Nadu for Allegedly Killing Wife Over Suspected Extramarital Affair

Chennai: A domestic dispute in Tamil Nadu has taken a tragic turn after a man allegedly murdered his wife in Dharmapuri district, reportedly over suspicions of an extramarital relationship. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community.

Police said the accused, Bhagyaraj (35), is a resident of Jelthimmanur near Panchapalli. He had been married to Nivedita (33) for about 12 years, and the couple has two children.

According to investigators, Bhagyaraj had been working as a daily wage labourer in Koyambedu, Chennai, and typically returned to his hometown only once every three months due to work commitments.

Suspicion and Domestic Disputes

Police said that during his absence, Nivedita had been living in the village with their children. Neighbours reportedly informed Bhagyaraj that she was suspected of having an extramarital relationship with a man from the same locality identified as Sivakumar.

After learning about the alleged relationship, Bhagyaraj reportedly returned to his village about two weeks ago. Authorities said the couple began arguing frequently after his return, despite attempts by family members to mediate and restore peace.

Fatal Confrontation

According to police sources, the situation escalated during a heated argument a few days later. Bhagyaraj allegedly discovered photographs and videos on his wife’s mobile phone showing her in close contact with the other man. Enraged by the discovery, he is said to have attacked Nivedita with a concealed weapon, fatally injuring her by slitting her throat.

Discovery of the Crime

The following morning, when the house remained closed, Bhagyaraj’s father, Rajamani, entered the residence and discovered Nivedita’s body. He immediately alerted local authorities.

Officers from the Panchapalli Police Station arrived at the scene, recovered the body, and sent it to the Dharmapuri Government Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Accused Surrenders

Police later confirmed that Bhagyaraj surrendered before authorities and reportedly confessed to the crime during initial questioning.

The murder, believed to have been triggered by family conflict and suspicion, has caused widespread shock in the village. Police officials said further investigation into the case is ongoing.
