A young man from Basti district in Uttar Pradesh has issued a public apology after a video purportedly showing him making derogatory remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi went viral on social media, triggering political outrage and police action.
The incident reportedly took place at a petrol pump in the Pakoliya police station limits, where the individual—identified as Pawan Yadav, a resident of Sirkohia—was seen in the viral clip speaking offensively about the Prime Minister after refuelling his vehicle. The video, which quickly gained traction online, sparked protests from local leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), who approached the police demanding strict action.
Acting swiftly, the police registered a case and initiated an investigation. Authorities also launched a search operation to locate the accused.
Accused Claims AI Fabrication
Amid mounting pressure, the accused appeared on social media and issued an apology, claiming that the viral video was not genuine and had been created using artificial intelligence. However, as the police intensified their probe, he later released another video, this time folding his hands and offering an unconditional apology.
Investigation Reveals Additional Details
Police sources revealed that the accused was seen riding a motorcycle bearing the word “Police” in the viral footage. Further inquiries also indicated that members of his family are employed in government services—one as a police personnel and another as a teacher in the education department.
Officials stated that the matter is being investigated thoroughly, including the authenticity of the video and the accused’s claims regarding AI manipulation.
Authorities Warn of Strict Action
Law enforcement authorities have reiterated that the use of abusive and provocative language, particularly in public or on digital platforms, will not be tolerated. They have assured that strict legal action will be taken against those found guilty.
The investigation remains ongoing, with officials indicating that the accused is likely to be taken into custody soon as part of further proceedings.
