Kerala — In a swift overnight operation, the Thrissur City Police have arrested a seven-member gang, including three women and two transgender individuals, shortly after they allegedly orchestrated a violent robbery at the residence of a 57-year-old spa owner in Kanimangalam.
The suspects, all residents of Bengaluru, have been identified as Susanna Angel (22), Stephen Raj (27), Surya (26), Frederick (33), Dhanalakshmi (30), Shirley (22), and Suchita (25).
The Incident: A Targeted Assault
According to police reports, the group forcibly entered the residence of the victim, Anitha, in the early hours of Wednesday. The assailants were reportedly armed with weapons and pepper spray. The gang’s coordinator, Susanna Angel, is a former employee of the victim’s spa, suggesting the attack was premeditated with insider knowledge.
During the home invasion, the gang:
- Restrained the Owner: Bound the 57-year-old woman with ropes.
- Confined Witnesses: Locked three other female employees, who resided at the house, in a separate room.
- Seized Assets: Looted approximately one pavan of gold jewelry, five mobile phones, and ₹42,000 in cash from the cupboards.
- Digital Theft: Forcibly transferred ₹20,000 from the victim’s bank account via Google Pay.
The Arrest: High-Speed Coordination
The breakthrough occurred after an employee managed to alert the police via a distress call. Acting on the tip-off, Assistant Commissioner Shashidharan, the night patrolling officer, initiated a city-wide blockade and intensified vehicle inspections.
The gang, traveling in a black car and a Bullet motorcycle with Karnataka registration plates, was intercepted at Pattikkad within hours of the crime.
"The rapid response of our patrolling units ensured that the suspects were apprehended before they could cross district lines," stated City Police Commissioner Nakul R. Deshmukh. "We have recovered the stolen mobile phones and are conducting further interrogations to uncover any additional criminal links."
Current Status
The accused remain in custody as the Thrissur City Police continue their investigation into the logistics of the heist and the suspects' prior criminal records in Bengaluru.
