India lifted third T20 World Cup title by defeating New Zealand by 96 runs in the final.
Ahmedabad: India made history at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
India won the 2026 T20 World Cup, ending the Sunday curse that had haunted India in ICC finals for years.
India won their third T20 World Cup title by defeating New Zealand by 96 runs in the final. With this, India also holds the record for the most number of titles won by a team in the tournament. This title victory is India's hat-trick of victories in ICC tournaments, following their victories in the 2024 T20 World Cup and the 2025 Champions Trophy.
Sanju Samson's brilliant batting performance led India to a huge total. Sanju became India's top scorer for the third consecutive match with 89 runs off 46 balls. Along with this, Ishan Kishan and Abhishek Sharma shone with half-centuries as India posted a record score of 255 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. India made the best start in the history of the tournament in the final by scoring 92 runs without losing a wicket in the powerplay.
In reply, New Zealand could not hold their own against the Indian bowlers from the very beginning. Axar Patel and Jasprit Bumrah put the Kiwis on the defensive in the powerplay itself. Tim Seifert and Mitchell Santner put up a strong fight but India could not chase down the huge target. Finally, New Zealand's innings ended for 159 runs in 19 overs.
