Two Anglers Die After Falling Into Sea in Co Clare Fishing Tragedy

Co Clare: Two men have died after falling into the sea while fishing off the coast of Doonbeg, Co Clare, in what the Irish Coast Guard has described as a tragic incident.

In a statement, the Coast Guard said its Marine Rescue Coordination Sub-Centre (MRSC) in Valentia was alerted at approximately 2:15 pm by An Garda Síochána after reports that two men had fallen into the water at Blue Pool in Pullen Bay.

The men were believed to have been fishing from rocks at the time of the incident.

Large-scale search operation launched

A coordinated search and rescue operation was immediately launched involving the Irish Coast Guard helicopter, units from Kilkee and Doolin, and the Aran Islands lifeboat.

At around 4:00 pm, the Coast Guard helicopter located two bodies within the search area. The remains were subsequently recovered from the water by the Aran Islands lifeboat amid difficult and rough sea conditions.

Formal notification to families underway

The Irish Coast Guard expressed its “sincere sympathy” to the families of the deceased following the recovery.

An Garda Síochána is currently liaising with the families of both men and continuing standard procedures following the incident.

Authorities have not yet released further details regarding the identities of the deceased.
