Iran Claims Downing of US A-10 Aircraft Amid Escalating Regional Tensions

Iranian military authorities have claimed that their air defence systems successfully intercepted and shot down a United States A-10 ground attack aircraft, according to a report by Al Jazeera. The claim, which remains unverified, comes at a time of heightened military activity across West Asia.

The reported incident is said to have occurred near the strategically significant Strait of Hormuz, a critical maritime corridor through which a substantial portion of the world’s oil supply passes. Iranian officials stated that the aircraft was targeted while operating over waters adjacent to the region.

Adding to the controversy, a video allegedly capturing the moment of impact has been circulated on social media by the Iranian Consulate General in Mumbai. The footage purportedly shows an American A-10 aircraft being struck by a surface-to-air missile launched from Iran’s integrated air defence system. However, the authenticity of the video has not been independently verified.

Despite the seriousness of the claims, there has been no official confirmation or response from the Pentagon or the White House.

In a separate but related development, CNN reported that a US Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle fighter jet was downed over Iranian territory. According to the report, one crew member has been successfully recovered, is alive, and is currently receiving medical treatment under US custody. Efforts are ongoing to locate the second crew member.

The F-15E, typically operated by a two-person crew, was reportedly struck during operations on Friday. Visual material circulated by Iranian media has been assessed by CNN as being consistent with the aircraft type, while The Wall Street Journal cited Iranian state broadcaster Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting as the first to report the crash and outline the search area.

Geolocated footage from Khuzestan Province shows aircraft movements resembling aerial refuelling patterns, further indicating ongoing military operations in the region.

If confirmed, this would mark the first reported loss of a US combat aircraft over Iran in the current phase of the conflict. However, in the absence of official verification from US authorities, the claims remain subject to scrutiny.
