New Delhi: The brutal rape and murder of a 22-year-old woman, daughter of an Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer, has raised serious concerns over residential security after investigators revealed that the accused allegedly bypassed a sophisticated four-layered security system at the family’s Amar Colony residence.
The victim, an IIT graduate and a UPSC aspirant, was found dead at her home on Wednesday morning. According to police, she was sexually assaulted and later strangled using a phone charger.
The primary suspect, identified as Rahul Meena, a former domestic help dismissed by the family over a month ago, is believed to have exploited his prior knowledge of the house’s security arrangements. Investigators suspect that Meena was aware of access codes and the locations of spare keys used by household staff, enabling him to enter and move within the premises undetected.
Sources cited in media reports indicate that the residence was equipped with multiple security barriers, including restricted lift access and locked entry points across different floors. To reach the section where the victim was present, at least four separate locks reportedly had to be opened—raising critical questions about internal security protocols.
Arrest and Evidence
Meena was arrested within hours of the crime from a hotel in Dwarka, where he had reportedly taken refuge. Police have charged him with rape, murder, and robbery.
CCTV footage has emerged as a key piece of evidence in the investigation. According to officials, the accused was seen entering the residential complex at approximately 6:28 a.m., dressed in a yellow shirt and black pants. In subsequent footage captured around 7:22 a.m., he was observed leaving the premises wearing a different set of clothes—white pants and a full-sleeve yellow T-shirt—suggesting an attempt to evade identification.
Discovery of the Crime
The victim was alone at home at the time of the incident. Her parents, who returned around 8:00 a.m., discovered her lying in a pool of blood and immediately alerted authorities.
A post-mortem examination later confirmed sexual assault and death by strangulation.
Ongoing Investigation
The case has triggered a detailed probe into how the accused managed to circumvent multiple layers of security, with investigators examining potential lapses and the role of insider knowledge. Authorities are also reviewing security protocols in similar residential setups to prevent such breaches in the future.
