TCS Nashik Case: Photograph Emerges as Key Evidence in Alleged Religious Coercion Probe

Nashik: A photograph recovered during the ongoing investigation into the alleged religious coercion and harassment case at Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) in Nashik has introduced a significant new dimension to the probe, with investigators suggesting it may illustrate the process through which victims were allegedly influenced over time.

According to police sources, the image — believed to be around two years old — shows key accused Tausif Attar standing alongside an individual identified as “Gopal” (name changed), who is said to have later converted and adopted the name “Gulshan.” Initially, investigators suspected that the man seen wearing a white cap in the photograph could be another member of the accused group. However, subsequent interrogation of Attar clarified that the individual was not an आरोपी but an employee of the same organisation and an alleged victim who had undergone conversion earlier.

Investigators believe the photograph may represent a critical stage in the alleged sequence of events, with the individual appearing in altered attire and participating in religious practices.

Victim Statement Details Alleged Influence

Following the recording of the individual’s statement, police indicated that he provided a detailed account of how he was allegedly approached and influenced over time. According to his testimony, he was targeted during a period of personal vulnerability and subjected to sustained efforts aimed at altering his beliefs.

He stated that in March 2023, his family was undergoing severe distress after his father suffered a paralytic attack. During this period, colleagues allegedly initiated conversations about their religion and encouraged him to adopt specific practices.

The complainant further alleged that he was repeatedly told that his existing faith was incorrect and that adopting alternative religious practices would help resolve his personal difficulties. He claimed that he was sent videos and other material through various contacts, which gradually influenced his thinking at a time when he was mentally distressed.

Allegations of Pressure and Coercion

The victim also alleged that the pressure intensified over time, including attempts to persuade him to change his name and participate in religious rituals against his will. He claimed that derogatory remarks were made about his religion and that fear was instilled regarding the safety of his family.

According to his statement, despite initial resistance, he was allegedly taken to multiple locations and compelled to engage in practices he did not consent to.

Investigators noted that the photograph, when viewed alongside the victim’s testimony, appears to indicate a broader pattern of alleged targeting, influence, and coercion within the workplace.

The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities continuing to analyse digital evidence, witness statements, and other material to establish the full extent of the alleged network and the roles of those involved.
