West Bengal Polls: Row Erupts Over Alleged ‘AI-Generated’ Video of Humayun Kabir

Kolkata: A political controversy has erupted in poll-bound West Bengal following the circulation of a purported video featuring Humayun Kabir, which allegedly suggests his links with senior leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Responding to the claims, Kabir has categorically denied the authenticity of the video, asserting that it is “AI-generated” and part of a deliberate attempt to malign his image. He further accused Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of orchestrating a conspiracy against him.

Kabir Denies Allegations

Speaking to media, the AJUP founder stated that the video in question falsely depicts him in a specific location and timeline that he claims is inaccurate. He pointed out discrepancies, including the date and setting shown in the clip, arguing that he has never stayed at the location featured in the footage.

Kabir also noted that the video was uploaded by a newly created YouTube channel, raising further doubts about its credibility. He said he intends to move the High Court against those responsible for circulating the content.

Political Allegations Intensify

In his remarks, Kabir criticised Mamata Banerjee, alleging that she has been repeatedly targeting him in public speeches. He expressed confidence that voters would respond to what he described as politically motivated attacks in the upcoming 2026 Assembly elections.

TMC Shares Video

The controversy escalated after the Trinamool Congress (TMC) shared the purported video during a press conference. In the clip, Kabir is allegedly seen claiming connections with senior political figures, including Suvendu Adhikari, Himanta Biswa Sarma, and officials linked to the Prime Minister’s Office, as part of an alleged plan to influence the electoral outcome.

Legal and Political Fallout

With both sides trading accusations, the issue is expected to have legal as well as political ramifications in the run-up to the elections. Kabir has reiterated that he will seek judicial intervention, while the TMC continues to press its claims regarding the contents of the video.

The development underscores the growing role of digital media and alleged AI-generated content in shaping political narratives ahead of crucial elections.
