Telegram Ban" - This is the Modi government's new strategy, said Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi

New Delhi: Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has strongly criticized the central government for temporarily banning the popular instant messaging app Telegram ahead of the NEET UG re-examination.

Rahul Gandhi said this is the Modi government's 'new' strategy to prevent question paper leaks.

'Telegram Ban" - This is the Modi government's new strategy to stop question paper leaks. Instead of catching the thief, lock the door of his house. Lakhs of students have been studying through Telegram for years. How does a temporary ban on Telegram solve the problem of question paper leaks?

Isn't that really stupid? All the students in the country know this, as does the mafia that leaks question papers. Who will be banned next, WhatsApp? ", Rahul Gandhi wrote in X. "Students will be checked on the exam day. If there are pockets in their clothes, the pockets will be cut with scissors. Question papers will be sent by IAF aircraft, there will be no shortage of drama.

There is no action against those who leak question papers. Because they thrive under the government's watch and make the youth cry. Modi ji, stop the drama. Action should be taken against the mafia, not against the students. Listen to the concerns of the students or the youth of the country will not know how to get their rights," said Rahul Gandhi.

Meanwhile, CEO Pavel Durov also expressed his deep dissatisfaction with the one-week ban imposed on Telegram in India. He accused the central government of making it difficult for the country's more than 150 million ordinary users instead of finding and punishing those who leaked exam data.

Ahead of the NEET UG 2026 re-examination to be held on June 21, the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has imposed a temporary ban on Telegram on the recommendation of the National Testing Agency (NTA). The ban will continue till June 22. In addition, the ministry has also directed to revoke the facility to edit existing messages till June 30.
