The Ministry of Home Affairs has announced the revised Immigration rules for foreign passport holders

Delhi: Foreigners who wish to stay in India beyond the permitted visa period will now have to register early under the revised Immigration and Foreigners Rules, 2025 notified by the Union Home Ministry.

These changes require visitors with visas lasting 180 days or less to complete registration before the 180-day period expires.

Under the previous framework, eligible foreign nationals could complete registration within 14 days after 180 days of arrival in India.

According to a notification issued on Monday, Rule 12 of the Immigration and Foreigners Rules, 2025 has been amended with a new requirement making registration mandatory "at any time before the expiry of the 180-day period" instead of the phrase "within 14 days after arrival in India".
