24 foreign-origin Gold Biscuits Found Concealed on IndiGo Flight

24 Gold Biscuits Found Concealed on IndiGo Flight at Ahmedabad Airport

Customs officials at Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport seized 24 foreign-origin gold biscuits weighing 2,799.3 grams and valued at approximately Rs 4.27 crore from an IndiGo flight arriving from Dubai on June 12.

The gold, of 999.0 purity (24 carat), was discovered during a detailed search of Flight 6E-1478 with assistance from aircraft engineers. Officials found two pouches wrapped in black plastic tape concealed inside a speaker box located in the aircraft's front lavatory.

Authorities said the sophisticated concealment indicated an attempt to smuggle the gold into India in violation of the Customs Act, 1962. As no individual came forward to claim ownership, the gold was seized as unclaimed property under the relevant provisions of the law.
The sophisticated concealment technique indicates an organized attempt to smuggle precious metals into the country, bypassing legal import channels and duties.
Local intelligence units have launched a comprehensive investigation. Investigators are currently reviewing the flight's passenger manifest and analyzing airport CCTV footage from both Dubai and Ahmedabad. They aim to identify the individuals responsible for planting the gold, as well as the local handlers intended to retrieve it.
