SEOUL / PYONGYANG — North Korea has issued a stern, high-level statement fiercely condemning the upcoming large-scale joint military exercises between the United States and South Korea, which are scheduled to officially begin on August 17.
Through its state-controlled media, Pyongyang denounced the massive allied maneuvers as a provocative "war rehearsal" designed to escalate regional hostility and simulate a preemptive strike against the isolated regime.
Military officials warned that the combined readiness drills cross a dangerous threshold, pushing the Korean Peninsula closer to active conflict and a volatile flashpoint.
In response to the allied deployments, North Korean military leadership asserted that the nation is fully prepared to exercise its sovereign right to self-defense. Pyongyang has vowed to take unsparing, decisive counter-measures to safeguard its national security against what it terms persistent imperialist aggression.
The scheduled exercises are set to involve thousands of troops, advanced aerial assets, and strategic naval deployments. The escalation has drawn immediate concern from regional monitors, signaling a fresh and tense cycle of deterrence and counter-rhetoric between Washington, Seoul, and Pyongyang.
