WASHINGTON — The United States administration has made formal legal commitments to obligate the entirety of a nearly $400 million military aid package for Ukraine, ensuring the funds are fully contracted before the looming fiscal year deadline.
According to officials familiar with the arrangement, the measures involve funds appropriated under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI). Out of the total $400 million, approximately $307 million had already been contracted by earlier in the week, with the administration moving swiftly to lock in the remaining $93 million before September 30 to prevent the funds from expiring.
The assistance package focuses heavily on vital defense equipment and ongoing military support. Initial shipments—including offensive weaponry and crucial spare parts for armored vehicles—began rolling out this month, though the broader timeline for full delivery extends through late 2029.
Despite Kyiv's continuous requests for high-end air defense amid intensive aerial attacks, administration sources confirmed that the current package does not include interceptor missiles for Patriot systems, as global defense stockpiles face heavy strain from concurrent regional commitments. The finalization of the funding comes following recent high-level diplomatic exchanges between Washington and Ukrainian leadership regarding long-term security cooperation and defense manufacturing.
