ANDHRA PRADESH — Seven people, including a government schoolteacher, were killed after a fire and explosion during a diesel transfer operation at a road construction site in Andhra Pradesh’s Alluri Sitharama Raju district on Saturday morning.
The accident occurred near Peechumamidi village in Ananthagiri mandal while diesel was being transferred to vehicles used for construction work. The fire spread to a nearby tipper truck and a two-wheeler, destroying all three vehicles.
The victims included a 44-year-old teacher and workers from other states. Police suspect that the incident may have resulted from mishandling of fuel. Investigators said no evidence of explosive materials had been found during the initial inspection. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
The district administration said the contractor would provide compensation of ₹5 lakh to each victim’s family. Officials will also facilitate insurance assistance for eligible dependants.
