KAMJONG, Manipur — Fresh violence in Manipur’s Kamjong district has left 28 houses belonging to members of the Naga and Kuki communities burnt within 24 hours. One Kuki civilian was killed and four people were injured in an attack, according to media reports citing officials.
On Sunday, at least 13 abandoned Naga homes in Pilong and Skipe villages, near the Myanmar border, were set on fire. The houses had reportedly been deserted following earlier attacks.
In a separate incident, 15 homes belonging to the Kuki community were torched in Chassad village on Saturday night. The violence forced several families to flee, with some seeking shelter in forest areas and a nearby Army camp.
The attack in Chassad followed an incident in which a Kuki civilian was killed and four others sustained bullet injuries. In another incident, two people were injured when unidentified armed assailants opened fire on a vehicle in Ukhrul district, according to reports.
Security has been strengthened in the affected areas. A joint team involving Assam Rifles personnel, the Border Security Force and local police has been deployed to help restore order.
The latest incidents underline continuing security concerns in Manipur, where tensions involving Naga and Kuki communities have affected several districts. Authorities are working to contain the violence and protect civilians.
The situation remains a matter of national concern, particularly because of the risk of further displacement and renewed clashes in the region.
