Indian Para-Athletes Shine as Sheetal Devi Matches World Record

NAGOYA — Indian para-athletes made a promising start at the Asian Para Games in Japan on Monday. Sheetal Devi matched the world-record mark in the women’s compound archery qualification round, according to an India Today live update.

Mona Agarwal topped the women’s 10m air rifle qualification standings, while double Paralympic champion Avani Lekhara qualified for the final.

Indian athletes are also competing in para-badminton, athletics and other events. High jumper Nishad Kumar is among the athletes expected to feature in India’s medal campaign.

The early performances offer encouragement, although qualification results should not be confused with final medal standings.
