NEW DELHI — Prime Minister Narendra Modi and visiting Swiss President Guy Parmelin have held key discussions aimed at giving fresh momentum to India-Switzerland ties. The two leaders discussed expanding cooperation in trade, investment, technology, artificial intelligence, defence, nuclear energy, science and technology, and other areas of mutual interest.
The Ministry of External Affairs said the next phase of the India-Switzerland partnership will focus on Trade, Technology and Talent. Both sides are looking to further expand economic and investment ties while creating new opportunities for cooperation in advanced technology, innovation and emerging areas.
The discussions also focused on strengthening cooperation in defence and defence production, along with greater engagement in nuclear energy, artificial intelligence, science and technology and innovation. India and Switzerland also reaffirmed their commitment to peace, diplomacy and the reform of global institutions.
The economic relationship is also set to gain further momentum through the India-European Free Trade Association (EFTA) Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement. Under the agreement, EFTA countries have committed to investing $100 billion in India over 15 years and supporting the creation of one million direct jobs.
The latest talks between Prime Minister Modi and President Parmelin are expected to further strengthen India's partnership with Switzerland across trade, investment, defence, technology and scientific cooperation, opening new opportunities for closer bilateral engagement.
