Saudi-Led Coalition Launches Airstrikes on Yemeni Capital; Houthis Vow Retaliation

SANAA — Fighter jets belonging to the Saudi-led coalition carried out targeted airstrikes against Houthi positions across Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, on Tuesday, striking key energy infrastructure shortly after issuing public evacuation warnings.

The bombardment struck a central facility operated by the Yemen Petroleum Company in the al-Sabahah area on the western outskirts of Sanaa. Prior to the attack, coalition spokesperson Brig. Gen. Turki Al-Maliki published targeted evacuation notices on social media, urging civilians and workers to immediately leave the site ahead of a planned precision strike. Large plumes of smoke were observed rising from the western perimeter of the city following the blast.

The strikes follow a sharp escalation in cross-border tensions. In immediate response, Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree issued a statement warning that attacks on Sanaa would be met with a "harsh and painful response" directed into Saudi territory, specifically naming King Khalid International Airport and Saudi Aramco facilities in Riyadh and Dhahran as potential retaliatory targets.

Houthi authorities condemned the bombardment, while civilian queues formed at fuel stations throughout the capital over concerns of potential supply shortages. Further strikes were also reported targeting storage infrastructure along Yemen's western Red Sea coast.
