BHUBANESWAR — Heavy rain and flooding following Cyclone Arnab have left several villages cut off in Odisha’s Ganjam and Gajapati districts, with more than 2,000 people reported stranded.
The worst-affected areas include Dharakote, Sanakhemundi, Surada and Patrapur. Rescue teams are working to reach isolated communities using boats and other emergency resources. Authorities are also exploring helicopter evacuations where weather conditions permit. Persistent rain and poor visibility have complicated rescue efforts.
Cyclone Arnab crossed the Andhra Pradesh coast on Wednesday, causing widespread damage across parts of India’s eastern coastline. More than 180,000 people were evacuated in Andhra Pradesh and Odisha ahead of the storm. Reports from Andhra Pradesh also highlighted damage to electricity infrastructure, homes and farmland.
Emergency teams are working to restore power supplies and clear affected roads. Although the cyclone has weakened, continuing rainfall and local flooding remain concerns. Residents in vulnerable areas have been advised to follow official alerts and avoid travelling through flooded roads.
