NEW DELHI — India’s merchandise exports rose 23.04 per cent year-on-year to $44.40 billion in September 2026, compared with $36.08 billion in the same month last year.
Merchandise imports also increased, reaching $74.61 billion. The resulting trade deficit stood at $30.21 billion, lower than the $33 billion recorded in September 2025. However, the deficit was higher than the $26.86 billion reported in August this year.
Petroleum products, engineering goods and chemicals were among the sectors contributing to export growth.
India’s total exports of goods and services were estimated at $80.75 billion for September, an increase of 10.99 per cent compared with a year earlier. The services figures for September are estimates, as the latest available official services data covered an earlier period.
The figures show stronger merchandise exports, although India continues to import substantially more goods than it exports.
