NEW DELHI — Abhijeet Deepke, founder of the youth outfit Cockroach Janata Party, was arrested in connection with a protest in Delhi demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, according to media reports.
Hundreds of young protesters carrying the national flag reportedly gathered at Connaught Place as part of a demonstration called “Lehra Do Tiranga”. The protest was linked to allegations that a large number of voters had been removed from electoral rolls during voter-list revision. Protesters alleged that the exercise favoured the ruling BJP.
The Election Commission has rejected allegations of wrongdoing in the revision process. The controversy over voter-list changes has continued to trigger political protests.
Further details about the case and the legal proceedings against Deepke were not independently confirmed at the time of writing.
