NEW DELHI — Microsoft has introduced a new voluntary exit programme for around 60,000 eligible employees across India, the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada, offering financial support and career-planning assistance to those who choose to leave the company.
Announced on October 26 by Chief People Officer Amy Coleman, the Voluntary Exit Offer (VEO) is available to employees in selected business units at internal job levels 70 and below. Participation varies across teams, depending on business priorities, customer commitments and workforce requirements.
The figure of 60,000 represents employees eligible for the offer, not the number expected to leave. Microsoft has not announced a target for departures under the programme.
The company had approximately 223,000 full-time employees worldwide as of June 2026. The latest initiative therefore makes more than a quarter of its global workforce potentially eligible for voluntary exit support.
The move comes as Microsoft continues to invest heavily in artificial intelligence infrastructure and services while adjusting its workforce to changing business needs. The company introduced a separate voluntary retirement programme earlier this year, alongside other workforce reductions.
The new offer gives eligible employees an option to leave with financial support and career-transition resources. The programme is limited to participating organisations, and employees will receive individual details explaining the terms of their offers.
