LEH — Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated major development projects worth around ₹3,350 crore in Ladakh, focusing on transport, electricity, water security and heritage conservation.
The projects include a new passenger terminal at Leh airport, the 298-km Nimmu–Padum–Darcha road, a 9 MW hydropower project, a power transmission line and India’s first Petroglyph Conservation Park. Forty water bodies have also been developed across 40 villages under Project Him Sarovar.
The new airport terminal, built at a cost of ₹640 crore, is designed to handle 3.5 million passengers annually. The road provides an alternative route to Ladakh and is expected to improve access to remote settlements while supporting the movement of essential supplies and security personnel.
The hydropower and transmission projects aim to strengthen electricity infrastructure. The water conservation initiative is intended to improve water availability for communities and agriculture.
The projects are expected to improve connectivity and essential services in the strategically important Himalayan region.
