VISAKHAPATNAM: Authorities in Andhra Pradesh and Odisha have stepped up preparedness as a depression over the Bay of Bengal is forecast to intensify into a very severe cyclonic storm and cross the Andhra Pradesh coast around October 28.
The India Meteorological Department has indicated that the storm could cross the coast between Bapatla and Visakhapatnam. Sustained wind speeds of 115–125 kmph are expected, with gusts potentially reaching 140 kmph.
Odisha has activated its disaster-response arrangements, while Andhra Pradesh is strengthening emergency preparedness in vulnerable areas. Officials are coordinating measures to reduce risks to residents and property.
Fishermen have been advised to stay ashore, and coastal communities have been urged to follow official weather alerts. The storm’s track and intensity may change, making updated forecasts important in the coming days.
