WASHINGTON — Elon Musk's SpaceX has secured $40 billion in debt financing, primarily to purchase graphics processing units (GPUs) for its expanding artificial intelligence computing infrastructure.
Musk said the financing had been completed, according to reports. The company's Starlink revenue and rocket-launch business helped support its access to credit markets.
The funding highlights the enormous investment required to build and operate AI data centres as demand for computing power continues to grow. SpaceX is positioning itself to expand its role in the AI infrastructure sector alongside its established space and satellite businesses.
Musk also warned that tighter credit conditions could put pressure on smaller AI cloud providers, potentially leading to failures and consolidation across the industry.
The deal underlines the growing role of debt financing in the global race to expand AI computing capacity.
