CORK — Indian expatriate nurse Amrutha Sadanandan has been honoured in Ireland for her outstanding service in the field of pediatric complex healthcare.
Amrutha, who resides in Cork, won the prestigious 'Nurse of the Year 2026' award instituted by Home & Community Care Ireland (HCCI).
The award was presented at HCCI’s annual conference held at the Killashee Hotel in Naas. A jury selected Amrutha as this year's top nurse from among 44 shortlisted nominees across nine categories nationwide. Jennifer Larkin accepted the award on behalf of Amrutha Sadanandan (MyHomeCare.ie) from HCCI CEO Joseph Musgrave and RCSI representative Mark White.
Amrutha has been working in the Children’s Complex Care division at 'MyHomeCare.ie' since January 2025. Her safe, home-based nursing care for children facing severe health challenges, her clinical expertise, and her exceptional coordination with families earned her this recognition.
This achievement underlines the dedication and vital contributions of Malayali expatriates to Ireland's healthcare sector, serving as a moment of great pride for the entire Malayali community in the country.
Since joining MyHomeCare.ie in January 2025, Amrutha quickly became a standout member of the team providing specialized in-home care for children with complex needs. Organizers of the 2026 HCCI Awards praised her calm, compassionate approach, her empathy toward patients' families, and her exemplary clinical proficiency.
Through her sincerity and dedication, she earned the deep trust of both her colleagues and the families she supports. The organizers emphasized her invaluable role in ensuring safe, accurate care at home for children with severe medical conditions.
While Amrutha sets an inspiring example for home care nurses in Ireland, sector figures point to a critical nationwide demand for more clinical caregivers. HCCI has warned that waiting lists for home care are rapidly expanding alongside rising regional inequalities in service availability, projecting home care demand to increase by up to 91% across the country by 2040.
