DUBLIN — Leading energy supplier PrepayPower has announced that it will not increase electricity and gas rates over the coming winter.
The relief measure applies to its roughly 200,000 customers. With this decision, PrepayPower becomes the second Irish energy provider to freeze tariffs amid rising household energy bills.
The move follows a similar commitment by ESB-owned Electric Ireland, which pledged to keep winter prices flat after previously increasing its rates in July. Electric Ireland was one of eight utility suppliers to roll out recent price increases.
The commitments from both major providers ramp up pressure on rival suppliers to follow suit. Over recent weeks, companies including Flogas, Pinergy, Energia, Bord Gáis Energy, and SSE Airtricity have hiked tariffs by around 10%, adding an estimated €300 in extra annual costs to the average household budget.
To support consumers ahead of rising winter utility expenses, new government grants aimed at boosting energy efficiency are being introduced. As part of these measures, homeowners with solar panels will now be eligible for a new grant to install battery storage systems.
