US approval: to build electric vehicle charging stations in 50 states

Hertz Global Holdings Inc ( HTZ.O ) said on Tuesday it has partnered with a unit of oil giant BP to install electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across North America to power its eco-friendly cars.

Five years and $5 billion are allocated in the November 2021 $1 trillion infrastructure measure to assist states in putting in EV chargers along interstate roads. According to USDOT, states can now access more than $1.5 billion to aid in the construction of EV chargers. Earlier this month, the White House declared that 35 state plans had received its approval.

The U.S. Transportation Department (USDOT) said it has approved the electric vehicle charging station plans for all 50 states, Washington and Puerto Rico covering about 75,000 miles of highways.

The auto rental company wants to electrify a quarter of its fleet by the end of 2024, but it did not divulge the deal's financial details.

In response to rising consumer demand for EVs, Hertz has made sizable EV purchases from Tesla Inc (TSLA.O), General Motors Co (GM.N), and Polestar. By the end of 2022, it intends to have 3,000 charging stations operational across North America.
