IRELAND: "Electricity prices to rise 29 per cent, gas 39 per cent and dual-fuel customers 33 per cent from October 7" Energia

Dublin: Energia customers can expect their upcoming gas and electricity bills to rise significantly as the company announced new price hikes. Prices will be hiked from October 7.

Energia is the sixth energy supplier to raise prices in recent weeks. The utility company attributed the price hike to higher costs in the wholesale market. According to the report, the wholesale market prices of gas and electricity have increased by 650 percent and 195 percent, respectively, since August 2021.

Gas customers will face 39% higher bills and electricity customers will have to pay 29% more. Dual fuel customers will face a 33% increase, which will average €19.84 per week, the company said.

The average increase in gas bills is €10.02 per week and electricity bills are €9.82 per week. The company said that there will be no increase in night rate for customers on smart tariffs.

"Government intervention is urgently needed to help energy consumers financially this winter and beyond," the company said. Last week, Taoiseach Micheal Martin said energy prices were "on the Richter scale" compared to last year, following increases from Electric Ireland. Martin said the government would use the budget and cost-of-living package to ease the pressure on families and businesses.

Energy Minister Eamonn Ryan said customers could expect additional electricity credits to be issued before Christmas. That credit will be in addition to the €200 applied to each household in April. The European Commission has also proposed several measures to control soaring energy prices in Europe.

Gary Ryan, Managing Director of Energy Group Customer Solutions, said: “We are well aware of the unfortunate impact continued price rises are having on households and we welcome the Government's intention to intervene in the upcoming Budget to support consumers.

"We will continue to support our customers and mitigate the impact of market cost increases with our integrated energy business, but the level of wholesale costs is far greater than our ability to maintain the current consumer price structure. "We recognize the hardship these increases will cause for many families. We urge any customers experiencing financial difficulties to contact us. , and we are committed to working on an individualized and flexible basis and providing support to help customers experiencing financial hardship, Energia said.

This includes extending financial support to help financially vulnerable consumers and providing flexible payment plans to consumer support agencies.
