Cork, Kerry, Waterford, Wexford, and Wicklow have all been given a Status Orange rain warning that is in effect from now until tomorrow night.
From now until tomorrow night at 10 p.m., Carlow, Kilkenny, and Tipperary are under a Status Yellow warning.
Cavan, Monaghan, Dublin, Kildare, Louth, and Meath have each received a separate Status Yellow rain warning. It becomes effective tomorrow at 4am and is in effect till midnight.
Met Éireann said: "Localized flooding will be caused by the heavy rain on Tuesday night, Wednesday, and Wednesday night, which may include thundery downpours. There may be a disruption."
At ten o'clock tonight, the warning goes into effect and lasts until midnight on Thursday.
According to meteorologist Linda Hughes, a significant low pressure system in the Atlantic will bring about torrential rainstorms with lightning.
"Around 9 p.m. tonight, the first rain will start to fall in the southwest. It will then spread north-eastward over the rest of the evening and into tomorrow morning."That will continue into tomorrow afternoon in some areas of the east and northeast.
A second bout of rain is expected to arrive in the southwest and south tomorrow afternoon around 3 p.m. This time, it will proceed northward across the entire nation.
With southeast to east winds expected to occasionally reach force six or higher, a Small Craft warning has been in effect for all of Ireland's shores since this morning at six in the morning.
The marine alert is in effect until Thursday morning at six.

Road users are urged to drive carefully during the weather warning and to check the weather and traffic in their immediate area before starting a journey, according to the Road Safety Authority.
The RSA issued warnings to drivers about limited visibility, maintaining a safe distance from the vehicle in front of you, and steering clear of potentially deeper-than-expected floods.
The RSA recommended that cyclists, motorcyclists, and pedestrians always wear high visibility apparel.
