Donegal: An explosion in Creeslough, Co Donegal,  has badly damaged a petrol station, nearby houses and it is feared, at least 3 people were killed and several people may have been seriously injured. At least three people were killed in an explosion at a service station in Creaslow, Donegal today. At 3.15 pm, a loud explosion could be heard from the building several kilometers away, according to local residents.

"It's very scary, there are silent prayers, people are still trapped inside the building and the emergency services are doing everything they can to remove the debris," added one local resident.

Many people were trapped at the site of the explosion at the service station. Several people are being treated in hospital following the blast, which Sinn Féin TD Piers Doherty described as his "worst nightmare".

Images shared on social media show damage from the explosion in County Donegal. A supermarket and houses built in the vicinity were badly damaged and the roof of the building partially collapsed. The force of the blast ripped away the outer wall, collapsed houses and damaged several cars.

He added that some inside the building were able to make contact with others outside. Emergency services are at the scene and Letterkenny University Hospital has now been put on major emergency standby. The hospital said in a statement that it was dealing with a serious incident where multiple people needed immediate attention. The hospital is asking the public not to come to the emergency department unless it is an emergency. People are advised to contact their GP or NowDoc service first. The HSE said the Nowdoc service has increased staff this evening to help deal with any additional demand.

A number of ambulances attended the scene at Applegreen Service Station in Creeslough. Irish Coast Guard Helicopter Rescue 118, based in Sligo, the Mulroy Coast Guard team and staff from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service assisted in the operation at the scene.

A 6km airspace restriction has been put in place around Creeslough village to facilitate airlifting of the injured to hospitals and no drones are allowed into the exclusion zone.
